Update from Across the Pond
“Here in Ireland we are entering into our 8th week of total lockdown, we have not left the yard since 17 March.
“We are very lucky to live in the countryside and we’re able to continue with our daily routine in the yard.
“We were preparing for both Kentucky and Badminton so it seems strange not to be galloping the horses in preparation for these 5 stars.
“I am, however, taking part in Virtual Eventing which takes place at the same time as Badmintion, and it has been really fun preparing for this whilst fundraising for the healthcare workers on the frontlines of this crisis.
There is a lot of painting, DIY fix-ups, and general spring cleaning going on around the yard. The horses are still in training but more focus on flat and pole work without high intensity fitness work.
Together at Home
The mandated quarantine has also given Joseph some time to explore creative ways to keep in touch with his clients throughout Ireland, Europe and the United States.
“I have so many loyal clients in the States and beyond, and I had been thinking of a more convenient way that I could maintain distance learning with them during my busy competition season. My teammate Sam Watson, a co-founder of Equiratings, introduced me to their ‘OnForm’ app, that I’ve been recently trailing with some of my students.”
Joseph has been analyzing footage from riders’ previous competition rounds and at-home training videos to offer constructive feedback.
“I have been in contact with my own coaches using ‘OnForm’ which has been particularly beneficial during lockdown in Ireland. I look forward to sharing my thoughts, tips, and training exercises with my own students via the app.”
“I know this is a very testing time for everyone, and it won’t last forever. I hope all are being sensible and staying safe.”
The OnForm app is free to download until June 2020. Joseph is offering a complimentary session to the first five riders who connect with him via the OnForm app, will develop personalized training plans and programs with riders moving forward.
