Windchase Eventing (Purcellville, VA) is looking for a long-term working student.   As an internationally renown sport horse training, breeding, boarding, and sale horse facility, Windchase Eventing offers  you the opportunity to learn all aspects of the business.

Get solid job experience in barn management, riding, training, sales, and breeding.

  • Learn the day-to-day dynamics of running a successful boarding and training operation
  • Train and compete their horse in the heart of Area II Eventing community
  • Learn and demonstrate top caliber grooming and stable management
  • Interact with top area veterinary services
  • Experience Eventing, barn management, and sales operations first hand.

Owned and operated by Olympic rider, USET Veteran and USEF Team Selector Phyllis Dawson, Windchase is a busy barn with more than 60 horses onsite ranging from green thru Advanced. The staff works as a team to keep operations fully on track and ensure outstanding horse care.

Position Description
Working students support all areas of Windchase Eventing operations.   You’ll work hard 5 1/2 days a week in horse care and barn work to support a successful operation, with a lot of laughter and fun along the way.   Working students receive lessons, housing, stall board for one horse, shipping to events, and coaching at events.

Position Requirements

  • You must be a hard working team player with a great attitude and willingness to learn the ropes of an Olympic level operation.
  • Have prior experience working with horses, with basic stable management skills. You should be comfortable handling keen event horses.
  • Eventing experience is not required, but competent riding skills are a plus.
  • Commitment of six or more months.
  • Have your own health insurance.

Compensation Package (value of $4000+/month)

  • Outstanding riding, education, & competition opportunities
  • 4 lessons weekly with Windchase staff, to include from Olympic rider and USEF Team Selector Phyllis Dawson, Advanced Level Rider & Assistant Trainer & USEA ECP III Instructor Molly Kinnamon.
  • Full board for your horse (or ride one of ours.)
  • Housing, and shipping to competitions.   You will share a 4-bedroom house on the farm with  other students.
  • Full use of Windchase resources, to include an outstanding cross country course, bank complex, water jump, two dressage arenas, outdoor jump arena with new footing, and a spacious indoor.          

There is plenty of opportunity for additional financial compensation for students with hustle and an excellent work ethic.
