Best Practices to Minimize Refund Stress for Horse Shows

There are a variety of reasons why a rider might need to request a refund, from illness to job issues to injuries to their horse. The good news is refunds are no longer the hassle and headache they used to be!  Here are 7 ways to minimize stress:

  1. Establish reasonable policies for horse show, clinic and schooling refunds.
    • Ask students to review the policy to check for any unintentional confusion.

  2. Consider asking for a non-refundable deposit to secure a clinic slot with a top rider. Generally the deposit should be-at a minimum-20-25% of the overall clinic fee due.

  3. Consider a “No Refunds, Credit granted” policy, similar to how major airlines process last minute ticket cancellations.
    • Grant the rider the right to sell their ride slot or apply the paid funds to an identical activity at your facility within a certain period of time, such as 90 days.

  4. Collect payment electronically, with registration.  Waiting for rider checks to clear before you have funds to refund is time consuming and confusing.
    • Use a platform that process charge card payments for you with no fees deducted from Organizer proceeds.  Services like StriderPay™ will transfer you the full entry amount, instantly, each time riders register.
  5. Process refunds electronically.  There are a variety of mobile aps available today that enable you to quickly refund funds with just a few button clicks.
  6. Follow up with riders to maintain goodwill. No matter what the reason for the refund request may be, a rider is still a customer. Be compassionate in understanding their reasons, yet firm and stick to the rules you’ve established.

With the tips above, you’ll easily avoid unnecessary stress and wasted time. To hear more about our services for clinic and schooling show organizers, riders and other participants, please contact us @ support@striderpro.com or get started today!
