Building Relationships in a Time of Social Distance with Equivont

by Jessica DiCostanzo for EquivontĀ

Less traffic on the roads, more time on our phones and computers, social distancing- COVID19 is changing the way we spend our day to day. Virtual birthdays and happy hours were something for the Jetsonā€™s, but now this is becoming the new normal. We are adapting- which is key.Ā

While we adapt as consumers, businesses are adapting too. Some businesses are reinventing themselves. Some businesses are having to pause production or the services they provide. A lot of these businesses are using this time to get organized. There is time to tackle those jumps that need to be painted, finally get around to those website updates, and sort through your unused tack.Ā

No matter how much adapting we do, it never hurts to have people on your team cheering you on…because letā€™s face it- changes can be scary. Hereā€™s how we can band together to save equestrian small businesses during times of uncertainty:Ā

GET CRAFTY– brainstorm, collaborate, bounce ideas off of your friends, clients, trainers. There is lots of space to be creative and coming up with ideas works best with more than one brain. How can we stay connected when we are so far apart? What improvements can be made? How can we do better for our horses? Facing challenges and thinking outside of the box is how both Event Clinics, now STRIDER, and Equivont began.

BRAG (about the people you appreciate!) – love your farrier? Or a certain pair of boots? Share it! Recommend them on social media, write a testimonial or review, post a picture, and tell your friends about why you love that product or service so much. Extra bonus is that business feels good, you are helping them spread the word, and you get extra karma credit!

CHECK IN– reach out to your horsie friends! Though some are unable to ride and we are all unable to show, swapping horse stories is a great way to build morale. Those ā€œremember whenā€s are sure to put a smile on a face.

GO VIRTUAL– If you canā€™t beat ā€˜em, join ā€˜em. Lots of competitions are sprouting up, and webinars with top riders and leaders across the industry Find some on the STRIDER calendar here.Ā

TP Challenges and ā€œsee a [gray/bay/win/fail], post a [gray/bay/win/fail]ā€ are examples of fun ways to interact with your fellow equestrians on social media while diving into the archives of your horse photos.

SHOP– try to support the little guys & gals. Many businesses have pivoted to providing online sales and resources. Purchasing your necessary equestrian items from small business will help them make it through this time. Gift cards are a great option, too!Ā Ā Ā

Embrace the change. Help one another. Cheer on friends, peers, and professionals.Ā  The only constant is change and now is the time to evolve and be creative. Now is the time to decide what really matters in life and in business.
