StriderPay For Non-Profits | Your Guide

Getting approved for StriderPay is typically a quick process that takes @ 5 minutes.  Occasionally a non-profit will need a helping hand to complete, as the language can be confusing. Tips for success:

  1.  Before starting, make sure to have your President/Treasurer/whoever signs your non-profit’s tax returns available to answer questions.  PayPal often wants to confirm their identity.

  2. Beneficial Owner” is simply PayPal’s term for “Who are the people in charge?” PayPal is essentially inquiring about who holds leadership positions in your non-profit and can confirm to the IRS that your financial transactions are for a charitable cause.

Registered charities automatically get a preferred processing rate on STRIDER.  All other non-profits MUST call PayPal to have their rate applied to STRIDER transactions.  (It’s worth it, trust us!)

If you get denied for StriderPay, do not stress. Simply email our support team.  It’s likely because there was a minor error on your application.  We’ll help you resubmit properly and get approved.

About Your Non-Profit

  1. The legal name of your non-profit: This is the name used with the EIN when filing taxes, not necessarily what donors locally know you by.
  2. The Doing Business As (DBA) name for your organization: What your donors know you by, and what shows up on their credit card statements. Your Chapter name goes here (if it is listed on the bank account)
  3. Your EIN: You can find your EIN on the EIN confirmation letter the IRS sent you. You can also get it by calling IRS’s Tax Exempt and Government Entities Customer Account Services at (877) 829-5500.
  4. When & where your non-profit was established: Year, country, etc.
  5. Is your nonprofit also a registered charity?
  6. Your organization’s mailing address: This can’t be a PO Box. (Tip- Often, the non-profit officer who signs the tax return uses their personal mailing address.)
  7. Your organization’s phone number:  This may occasionally show on riders’ credit card statements- typically, organizations use the treasurer’s #.
  8. Product or service: Typically, Educational Services
  9. What are your monthly donations? If you don’t know exactly, choose your best guess.
  10. The URL to your non-profit’s website: If you have one

About the Person Filling Out Form
Life will be easier if the person listed as completing the form is one of the non-profit’s executives. President, Treasurer, etc.

  1. The legal name of the person applying for StriderPay approval on behalf of the non-profit: Make sure the name you input is spelled exactly the same as on their driver’s license.
    • A cell phone photo of their driver’s license + Last 4 digits of their SSN.
    • Their residential address. Make sure it’s not a PO Box. It either needs to match the residential address on their personal tax documents or be your organization’s mailing address.

Who Is Responsible (In Charge of) Your Non-Profit
“Beneficial owner” is just a legal term for people who lead your nonprofit.

  1. The legal name of one executive or an Officer who makes strategic decisions, such as a President or treasurer: You can typically use the name on record with the IRS (who signed the tax return last year?) in your tax or non-profit formation documents.
    • A cell phone photo of their driver’s license + their FULL SSN. Keep in mind you are processing financial transactions for a non-profit.  Their SSN is already on file with the IRS, if they are a declared officer of the non-profit.
    • When it says to “add beneficial owner(s),” select or add an Executive (officer in the non-profit)

  1. Sign The Form: You’ll then see today’s date and need to electronically sign.
If you are stopped before this section, double-check that you have both an executive AND beneficial owner (typically the executive) displayed to PayPal.
